Projects We Support

For every product we sell, we will make a donation to One of our supported projects. We believe that we are all able to make a positive difference to the lives of others, which is why supporting Programs around the globe who are working to change things for the better, is so important to us!

HONOR 1000 MICROFINANCE – THE PHILIPPINES.

One Tribe is excited to be supporting Captivating’s Honor 1000 microfinance program. The program is focused on providing women with the opportunity to not only provide for their family but set in place a business that will radically change their lives.

The key cause that sits behind the Trafficking of Persons is extreme poverty. When a woman has no other way of reasonably earning money to sustain herself or her family, she will become desperate. In the Philippines, it is estimated there are up to 200,000 children, young men and women on the streets of Manila alone, and that at least one tenth are, or become victims of human trafficking. Tragically, the Philippines ranks fourth in the world in terms of countries with the highest number of prostituted children (humantrafficking.org Philippines).

Microfinance helps by giving families a way out of poverty. By providing women the opportunity to take out small loans to either start or grow their business, the women are now able to provide for their family, keeping their children in school and safe.

How the program works: A woman receives training on how to run her own business, including advice on successful business opportunities; She is mentored through the process of money management, savings, how to budget, basic business skills; She is connected to a group of other women in similar circumstances, forming a loan collective that support and look out for each other through the years to follow; She is given a small low interest loan enough to get her started. Once she has successfully repaid this, she will be eligible to take out future loans at higher values until she no longer requires support. Throughout this whole process, she will have the support and guidance of her loan officer, and her new community group. She’s on her way to changing the future for herself and her children!

$385 is all it takes to equip a woman to create a brighter future for her family.

INTERCEPT A GIRL - NEPAL

We have chosen to support Captivating Internationals Intercept a Girl initiative that works to prevent girls being trafficked from Nepal. Many rural women live in extreme poverty without any means of improving conditions for themselves and their families. Many end up making tough decisions in order to survive, fuelling an aggressive human trafficking industry.

The border between Nepal and India is 1600 kilometres long which makes it easy to smuggle over 20,000 young girls and women from Nepal to India each year. The girls are taken from their homes and communities to work as sex slaves in the brothels of Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Siliguri or Kolkata. This is a life of abuse and exploitation. A life without hope.

“Today, whole villages in remote rural Nepal have NO GIRLS left above the age of 10. They’ve all been trafficked” – Helen Eagar, Chairperson of the Board of 3 Angels Nepal.

Through the work of their local partners, Captivating support 31 monitoring stations, stopping these women and children before they are taken across the border. The trained teams at the monitoring stations conduct interviews to look for any suspicious circumstances. Monitoring station staff stop her from progressing across the border due to their concerns about the risk factors surrounding her travel. When they believe that the girl is being trafficked, they present the case to the local police. It is explained to the girls what is happening to them, they are counselled as necessary and are reunited with their families.

Over 5,000 women will be intercepted this year thanks to Captivating-funded monitoring stations operated by their Nepal-based partners.

Over 20,000 Nepali girls are trafficked every year. We can play a role in changing that statistic. It costs just $130 AUD to intercept a girl. Together we can be part of changing their story.

RizeUp – Domestic and Family Violence - Australia

Domestic and Family Violence is one of the greatest issues of social injustice in Australia. Domestic violence doesn’t discriminate, affecting people from all races, religions and social classes. The statistics are heartbreaking and the issue needs us all to stand up and be part of the solution. We are so happy to be supporting the amazing work that RizeUp do to address this injustice head on.

The statistics according to On Our Watch are both confronting and concerning:

- On average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.
- Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a spouse or domestic partner.
- 1 in 4 Australian women (23.0%) has experienced physical or sexual violence by current or former intimate partner since age 15.
- 1 in 4 Australian women (23.0%) has experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner.

The research underpinning RizeUp’s response found that 61% of women had children in their care when the violence occurred. When children are brought up in a house of violence, they have trouble connecting with friends and family and their future is significantly compromised.

Women and men are more likely to experience violence at the hand of men, with around 95% of all victims of violence in Australia reporting a male perpetrator.

RizeUp’s mission is to drive awareness of domestic and family violence within our society by generating life-changing, practical support for the families affected, giving them the hope and empowerment to move on to a life free from violence.

RizeUp aren’t just advocating for change, they are making real, far reaching and practical contributions to these families through their 3 main programs;

Rapid Response Program – When women flee their homes, it is often with nothing. RizeUp’s Rapid response program sources critical items required at a moment’s notice. They respond to emergency needs related to emergency relocation.

Homes Program – RizeUp sets up and furnishes homes sourced by specialist support services to support clients moving on from domestic violence. By creating a safe home for these women and families, they provide them with everything they need practically to start again, allowing them to begin healing emotionally.

Youth Enrichment Support Solutions – Families having to start again means that children may need to start at a new school. The Youth Enrichment Support Solutions program supports the family by providing items of clothing needed for their new school.

RizeUp aren’t government funded and require a community of supporters, just like us, to be part of the solution in supporting families affected by violence, as well as being part of the change to end domestic and family violence.

You can find more information on the excellent work that RizeUp do on their website. Hop on over and consider how you can help families who need our support.
